After a difficult period of dealing with a family bereavement and battling mental health issues, Phil threw himself into his music and studies, eventually earning first-class honours and a Masters degree in music. His dedication and talent shine through in his carefully crafted lyrics, which often draw from personal experiences and touch on a range of topics, from the struggles of modern-day life to the pain of loss and mental illness. When it comes to songwriting, Phil doesn’t have a set method. He draws inspiration from unexpected moments and captures his ideas on his phone, from voice notes to recordings. And whether it’s a lighthearted commentary on the challenges of technology or a heartfelt tribute to a loved one, the songs on “JD III” are a true reflection of the band’s versatility and depth.
