A group of talented musicians from Australia have joined forces to pay tribute to one of the greatest names in football. The Musicmen, known for their unique style and love for the sport, have released a new single titled “Angeball”. This catchy anthem, a parody of The Choirboys’ “Run to Paradise”, is dedicated to none other than football coach Ange Postecoglou. The Musicmen, initially a group of English soccer players who shifted their focus to music, have been creating music since the late 80s. 

With their appearance on Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s Red Faces and a spot in the Toohey’s Gold ad, their fame grew steadily. Signing with Mushroom Records and performing alongside some big names in the industry, The Musicmen have cemented their place in the Aussie music scene. Their latest single, “Angeball”, is a testament to Postecoglou’s revolutionary approach to the game. The Musicmen, who have played against Ange during their time on the field, were inspired by his journey from playing for South Melbourne to coaching top teams like Glasgow Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. 

They are grateful for what he has done for Australian soccer and are proud to honor him through their music. Lead singer David Brooks explains, “We wanted to create a tribute to Postecoglou’s ‘Ange Ball’ style of play and his impact on the sport in our country. When deciding on the perfect song to parody, we immediately thought of ‘Run to Paradise’ as it perfectly captures the essence of our tribute.” The Musicmen have received support from the original artists, The Choirboys, with lead singer Mark Gable personally assisting them in gaining permission from Universal Music for the parody. The group hopes that their song will not only resonate with football fans but also reach a global audience, showcasing Postecoglou’s influence on the sport. The Musicmen have already performed “Angeball” at South Melbourne’s season launch, the first club where Ange played and successfully coached to premiership victories. However, their ultimate dream is to perform it at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, home of the team that Ange currently coaches, and at the MCG when Tottenham comes to Melbourne to play Newcastle United on May 22nd. This would be a true testament to Postecoglou’s global impact.
