Shakira and Maluma are officially joining forces again. The Colombian superstars have confirmed their long-awaited new collaboration, “Agua,” marking their return to the studio together nearly eight years after their last release.

The announcement arrived on September 9 through a joint social media post featuring the two artists. The caption revealed the song’s title and release date: “AGUA 💦 🇨🇴 17.09.26 Nos fuimos Mundialllll 🌍.” 

The single is set to arrive worldwide on September 17, 2026. 

Shakira and Maluma Are Back Together

The announcement follows a carefully planned tease from Maluma.

Before revealing Shakira’s identity, the singer shared a mysterious photograph showing the silhouette of a woman and asked fans to guess who his upcoming collaborator would be. The mystery was resolved hours later when he unveiled the promotional image with Shakira. 

Maluma has also teased “Agua” on TikTok, giving fans a first taste of the song’s tropical direction and revealing a short lyric from the track. A pre-save option is already available ahead of its release. 

Their Fourth Collaboration

“Agua” brings together two of Colombia’s biggest musical exports for the first time since “Clandestino” in 2018.

Their collaboration history began with “Chantaje” in 2016. The song became a global Latin hit and spent 11 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. 

They followed it with “Trap”, which appeared on Shakira’s El Dorado, before releasing “Clandestino” in 2018.

That final collaboration became another major success, reaching the Top 10 of Hot Latin Songs and topping Billboard’s Latin Airplay, Latin Pop Airplay and Latin Rhythm Airplay charts. 

Now, eight years later, the duo is ready to begin another chapter.

‘Agua’ Arrives at a Major Moment

The timing of the collaboration could hardly be bigger for either artist.

Shakira is preparing to begin her 12-show Madrid residency on September 18, just one day after “Agua” arrives. 

Meanwhile, Maluma continues to build momentum internationally, following several high-profile collaborations and new projects throughout 2026.

The pair’s announcement has already generated significant attention online, with fans immediately celebrating the return of one of Latin music’s most recognisable collaborations.

The title “Agua” has also inspired the song’s visual identity, with the announcement artwork using water-inspired imagery alongside the Colombian flag.
