Lisa brought BLACKPINK-level excitement to the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend as she premiered her first solo documentary, Always Lalisa.
The K-pop superstar was greeted by huge screams from fans as she arrived on the red carpet at TIFF for the world premiere of the documentary, which offers an intimate look at a pivotal period in her career away from BLACKPINK.
Directed by Sue Kim, Always Lalisa follows Lisa, whose full name is Lalisa Manobal, throughout 2024 and 2025 as she began building her identity as a solo artist while preparing to return to BLACKPINK.
A Year of Reinvention
The documentary focuses on a particularly important chapter in Lisa’s career.
After stepping away from BLACKPINK for a year of independence, Lisa faced the challenge of establishing herself beyond the group that made her a global superstar.
Always Lalisa captures the creation and release of her debut solo album, Alter Ego, as well as her transition into acting with her role in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus.
The film also follows her preparations for her solo performance at Coachella, giving audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the pressure involved in performing alone on one of the world’s biggest festival stages.

For director Sue Kim, one of the most important aspects of the documentary was showing audiences a side of Lisa that doesn’t normally appear in the highly controlled world of K-pop.
The filmmaker described the project as an opportunity to get closer to the person behind the carefully crafted public image associated with the K-pop industry.
That approach means the documentary isn’t simply a career retrospective. Instead, it follows Lisa as she tries to understand what she wants from the next stage of her life and career.
“I just tried to find new things,” Lisa explained after the premiere, reflecting on her decision to explore opportunities outside BLACKPINK.
BLACKPINK and Lisa’s Solo Journey
Lisa’s solo chapter eventually brought her back to BLACKPINK.
The group reunited in February 2026 and released DEADLINE, their first mini-album in more than three years.
The documentary therefore captures a fascinating moment in the group’s history — the period when each member was exploring individual opportunities before BLACKPINK returned to the spotlight together.
For Lisa, that period included music, acting, fashion and major international appearances, helping establish her as a global entertainer beyond her role as a member of BLACKPINK.

Lisa’s career has expanded dramatically in recent years.

When Can Fans Watch Always Lalisa?
Following its world premiere at TIFF, Always Lalisa is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 12, 2026. The film is produced by Sony Music Vision in association with RCA Records, Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions and LLOUD.
For BLACKPINK fans, the documentary offers a rare opportunity to see Lisa during one of the most transformative periods of her career.
