Lola Young has made a surprise appearance at Reading Festival 2026, taking to the main stage for an unexpected set on the final day of the festival.
The singer-songwriter was confirmed as the festival’s latest secret guest earlier today, with the announcement coming only a few hours before she was due to perform. Her appearance marked her Reading & Leeds Festival debut and added another surprise moment to an already eventful weekend.
A Surprise Addition to the Reading Line-Up
Young performed on The Grid, Reading Festival’s main stage, at 3:15pm, replacing the previously announced “Special Guest” slot.
The announcement followed two other surprise performances at Reading this weekend, with Jamie T opening the main stage on Friday and Royal Blood also making an unexpected appearance.
The last-minute reveal added another layer of excitement to the festival’s final day, which also features major performances from Florence + The Machine, Chase & Status, Loyle Carner, Westside Cowboy and Violet Grohl.
A Major Return to the Festival Stage
The Reading appearance comes during an important period in Young’s career.
The South London singer previously cancelled her 2025 tour while taking time away from performing to focus on her wellbeing. She had also previously spoken about seeking treatment for addiction and attending AA meetings during that period.
Earlier this year, Young described herself as being in a much better place and ready to return to performing and releasing music.
Her Reading appearance therefore represents another significant step in her return to the live stage.
A Set Packed With Fan Favourites
Young’s surprise performance featured songs from across her recent catalogue, including tracks from This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway and I’m Only Fking Myself**.
Her set included “Wish You Were Dead,” “Big Brown Eyes,” “One Thing,” “Conceited,” “D£aler,” “Post Sex Clarity,” “Spiders,” “Not Like That Anymore” and “Messy.”
“Messy” proved to be a particularly big moment, with the crowd singing along to one of Young’s best-known songs as she brought the surprise set to a close.
“Try Not to Give a F***”
Young also used the opportunity to share a personal message with the Reading crowd.
Before performing “Messy”, she encouraged fans to “try not to give a fuck”, reflecting on the difficulties of life and the importance of being able to share music and art together.
The message gave the surprise performance a more personal dimension, particularly given the singer’s recent journey away from the spotlight.
Another New Chapter for Lola Young
Young’s appearance at Reading comes after she began releasing new material again this year.
In May, she shared “From Down Here,” a collaboration with James Blake that became her first new music since I’m Only Fking Myself**. She later performed the track live at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Sunderland.
Her unexpected Reading appearance now adds another important milestone to her return.
