Glasgow is once again transforming into Gotham City. The production of The Batman Part II is moving into a major filming stage in Scotland, and fans have already been given an exciting first glimpse of the return of the iconic Batmobile.

The vehicle was spotted in St Vincent Lane in Glasgow, ahead of a new round of filming that will turn parts of the city into Batman’s dark fictional home. The production is expected to bring significant activity to the city, with several major roads affected by filming. 

Glasgow Becomes Gotham Once Again

Glasgow previously doubled as Gotham City in Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson. The city’s architecture and streets provided the dark, atmospheric setting needed for Reeves’ vision of Gotham.

Now, the city is returning to that role for the highly anticipated sequel.

Production crews are preparing several locations across central Glasgow, with filming expected to involve areas including Bothwell Street, Wellington Street, Glasgow Bridge and Broomielaw. Some closures and restrictions are scheduled as the production moves through the city. 

The arrival of the Batmobile has already generated excitement among local residents and Batman fans, offering one of the clearest indications yet that filming is entering a major outdoor-production phase.

Robert Pattinson Returns as Batman

Robert Pattinson will once again play Bruce Wayne/Batman, continuing the story established in 2022’s The Batman.

The sequel is being directed by Matt Reeves, who returns to develop his darker and more grounded interpretation of Gotham and its characters.

The cast also includes several major Hollywood names. Colin Farrell is returning as Oswald “Oz” Cobb, also known as the Penguin, while Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan have joined the cast. Barry Keoghan is also expected to return as the Joker. 

The secrecy surrounding some of the new characters has already encouraged considerable speculation among fans, particularly regarding Stan’s role.

The Batmobile Makes Its Return

Perhaps the most exciting development for fans is the return of the distinctive Batmobile from Reeves’ Batman universe.

Unlike some previous cinematic versions of the vehicle, Reeves’ Batmobile has a heavily customised muscle-car appearance, fitting the gritty and realistic aesthetic of this particular Gotham.

The vehicle has now been spotted in Glasgow ahead of filming, with reports suggesting that multiple versions of the car are being used during production. 

Its appearance has immediately generated excitement online, with fans sharing photographs and footage from the Glasgow set.

Glasgow’s Growing Role in Major Film Productions

The return of The Batman also highlights Glasgow’s increasing importance as a filming location for major international productions.

The city has previously appeared in major Hollywood projects including The Batman, World War Z and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. It has also recently been used for other major productions, strengthening Scotland’s position within the international film industry. 

For Glasgow, the Batman production brings both global attention and a significant temporary transformation of the city centre.

When Will The Batman Part II Be Released?

Fans will still have to wait a while before they can see the finished film.

The Batman Part II is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 18, 2028. 

That gives Reeves and his team plenty of time to complete filming, visual effects and post-production on what is expected to be another visually ambitious chapter in the Batman saga.

For now, however, the arrival of the Batmobile in Glasgow is giving fans their first exciting glimpse of Gotham’s return.

With Robert Pattinson back in the cape and the production expanding across Scotland, The Batman Part II is officially beginning to take shape — and Glasgow is once again at the centre of the action.
