Although styling himself, rather excitingly, as the current champion of Congo Funk, Elvic Kongolo (an artist with a name that rather demands a career in the music business), is releasing a track which ignores the funk and focuses squarely on the soul.

With a smattering of some of the sounds and rhythms of his homeland in the Congo, Our Story is a track which also leans heavily on his experiences in a very different realm – Norway. Lyrically dealing with the break-up of a relationship, despite the best efforts of the two lovers, the track is more a showcase for Kongolo’s ultra-soulful vocals, a demonstration of both his voice’s strength and gentleness, rather than the trap so many fall into – musical gymnastics. It will be interesting to hear how the funk element combines with his vocals.
