I can imagine that this headline is a little baffling for a lot of people, but if you love your comics and you love electronic music, then we certainly have the one for you.
Psyrena, the music avatar, makes a catchy form of electro-pop alongside her ‘spirit animal’ Mr.Bear who also lends a hand on the keyboards. They’re a dynamic duo crossing over from their other-worldly realm into the real world of you and me to bring us their empowering music.
It’s not all just ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’ as the title of their latest single would suggest; there’s much more behind the magic and fantasy. For instance, Psyrena is all about giving a voice to the disenfranchised, the outcast – the ‘other’. As you might be able to guess, ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’ nods at the LGBT scene, but Psyrena and Mr. Bear also position themselves as devout feminists, addressing other topics too, such as discrimination, hate crimes and escapism.
So, don’t be fooled by the often ‘cutesy’ image that might come across, this is music for the ‘other’, but at the same time, it’s music for everyone. Especially those with tendencies for dance-heavy, electro-pop. In fact, Psyrena has self-labelled her genre ‘bipolar-electronica’, reflecting the contrasting nature of the music she is making.
