Falkland Islands Lead to Foundation of Club Beirut in Scotland

A confusing headline if ever there was one but one undoubtedly rooted in fact. During a dismal posting with the RAF in the far-flung Falkland Islands, several thousand miles from his home in Scotland, Craig McInnes found solace in writing music, with the idea of forming a band on his return keeping him focused during his lowest periods.

Hooking up with his friend Fraser Laing, they pooled their resources into recording equipment and polished the rough edges of the songs into what ultimately became Club Beirut – a musical project which is deliberately feel-good yet still has the scope to cover issues lyrically. Not for them the introspective gloom which often threatens to envelop indie and pop acts nowadays, this is music to escape to and have fun to.

The first glimpse of their work – the appropriately titled ‘Something New’ – is released on 17th of February with further music planned and an April UK tour having the final details confirmed.
