We’re now in the final throes of Sonic News favourites, Wartoad’s run-up to their debut album being released and the final taster of the long-player is “I Get High”, their most musically intriguing offering yet.

Having been thrown off their digital host for their previous single, I Alone Can Fix It, due to an unfortunate choice of guest lead vocalist (Donald Trump!), the next target of our favourite punk spawn is Hollywood hypocrisy – specifically Leonardo Di Caprio, and his penchant for flying by private jet to lecture the world on carbon emissions.

Away from the subject matter, Wartoad demonstrate their musical chops by introducing a mellotron into their punk pond, lending an oozing sixties feel to a track which proves they’re far more than gimmick and bluster and have real skill and brains behind the mask. Along with a driving Stooges-esque groove which recalls I Wanna Be Your Dog, this is how punk should always have sounded – it’s just as well we all hung around long enough.
