McFly star Dougie Poynter has reached five years of being sober.

The bassist took to Instagram today (February 15) to celebrate the milestone.

Alongside an age-old painting of a drinking session, the Brit wrote:

“Remember that time [I] used to drink?

“5 years sober today #mesosober.”

Poynter previously revealed in an interview that he attemped suicide in 2011 as he battled drink and drugs.

The attempt to end his life came just months before the musician was admitted to rehab.
