Madonna and Charli XCX are officially joining forces for their first-ever musical collaboration, with “Danceteria Afterhours” arriving on September 24.
The track is a new version of “Danceteria,” from Madonna’s latest album Confessions II, and brings together two generations of artists whose work has been closely connected to club culture and electronic pop.
Madonna and Charli XCX’s First Collaboration
The collaboration was confirmed after weeks of teasing and speculation on social media.
Madonna shared a preview showing herself and Charli XCX dancing together in a white studio while snippets of the new track play in the background. The video ends with the pair trading vocals, while Madonna references the original song.
The post was accompanied by the message “Let’s take it to the East side baby…… 9.24.26”, confirming the September 24 release date.
The new track will be released through Warner Records and is being produced by Stuart Price, a longtime collaborator of Madonna’s.
The Story Behind “Danceteria”
“Danceteria” takes its name from Danceteria, the legendary New York nightclub that became an important part of the city’s downtown music and art scene during the 1980s.
For Madonna, the club is particularly significant because it is connected to the early stages of her career in New York.
The original track on Confessions II draws on that period and the culture that surrounded Madonna as she established herself as an artist. Bringing Charli XCX into a new version creates a direct connection between Madonna’s early club influences and Charli’s contemporary electronic-pop sound.
From Social Media Teases to the Studio
The collaboration did not appear out of nowhere.
Madonna and Charli had been exchanging playful messages and teasing fans online before officially revealing that they had recorded music together. Madonna previously posted a message referencing Charli, while the British singer responded with her own cryptic reply.
Their friendship also became more visible during Paris Fashion Week, where the two were seen together and hosted a Club Confessions event with Saint Laurent.
Now, their relationship has moved from public exchanges to an official musical collaboration.
A New Chapter for Confessions II
“Danceteria Afterhours” follows other collaborations connected to Madonna’s current era, including “Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter and “Bizarre” with Martin Garrix.
The new track also follows the release of the “Love Sensation (Afterhours Mix)” featuring Kylie Minogue, giving Confessions II another high-profile pop collaboration.
Three limited-edition CD versions of “Danceteria Afterhours” are also available for pre-order, featuring the new Afterhours Mix alongside the Harry Romero remix and the original version of the song.
Will Charli XCX Join Madonna at the MTV VMAs?
The timing of the release has naturally sparked speculation.
“Danceteria Afterhours” arrives just three days before the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, where Madonna is scheduled to open the ceremony.
There has been speculation that Charli XCX could potentially appear alongside Madonna, particularly after the pair’s new collaboration was announced. However, there is currently no official confirmation that Charli will join Madonna onstage, so any potential appearance remains speculation.
For now, fans will not have to wait much longer to hear what happens when Madonna’s New York club roots meet Charli XCX’s modern pop vision.
